Each is given in two colour versions — blue, with a monet blue tweed yoke, a sapphire blue body and ruby red sleeves, and burgundy, with an orchid yoke, a burgundy body and soft purple sleeves — with a band and a rib at the hem and cuffs in golden and amber heather, or ochre and orange rust. At every colour change the jacket is cast off and the next colour picked up behind the edge, so each block is set off by a small ridge. Jacket sizes 116, 128 and 134; the hat is one size, 116–134. In the blue version monet blue tweed (9735) and sapphire blue (9968) are no longer made; in the burgundy version four of the five — orchid (0159), burgundy (9210), ochre (0065) and orange rust (9988) — are no longer made.

What you get

The knitting pattern in English (PDF), emailed right after purchase — nothing is posted

Both patterns in the leaflet — No. 7, the Hlökk zip jacket, and No. 8, the Haddur hat

Each in two colour versions, blue and burgundy

Jacket in sizes 116, 128 and 134; hat in one size, 116–134

Colour charts for the jacket’s body and sleeves

Yarn and needles are not included. For the hat: cardboard for the pompom (an 8 cm ring with a 2 cm hole) and a tapestry needle for the seam, which the list also leaves out.

How it is knitted
Hlökk is knitted from the neck down in Álafosslopi on 6 mm needles. The colours are lettered A to E: in the blue version A is monet blue tweed, B sapphire blue, C ruby red heather, D golden heather and E amber heather; in the burgundy version orchid, burgundy, soft purple, ochre and orange rust. The back yoke is cast on at the back neck in A and knitted back and forth to the armholes; the fronts are picked up at the shoulders and knitted down, with stitches cast on step by step to shape the front neck and 3 moss stitches at each front edge. The body is then picked up in B behind the cast-off edges of the back and both fronts, with 4 stitches cast on under each arm, and knitted back and forth to the hem, followed by a band in D and a K1, P1 rib in E on 4.5 mm. At every colour change the work is cast off from the right side and the new colour is picked up behind the cast-off edge, so each block is marked by a small ridge. The sleeves are picked up round the armholes in A and knitted in the round downwards the same way: A at the top, C with decreases, a D band and an E rib cuff on 4.5 mm double-pointed needles. The neckband is picked up in C on 4.5 mm — 3 rows of C, 8 of E and 2 of C — folded double and slip-stitched down over the top of the zip. The jacket is washed and laid flat to dry before the zip is sewn in. Haddur is knitted back and forth in brioche, a deep, stretchy rib, on the 6 mm needle: 48 stitches are cast on, and the stripes are 14 rows of hat colour A, 10 of B, 8 of C, 4 of A, 6 of D, 6 of E and 10 of B. Then every two stitches are knitted together, a row is purled and every two are knitted together again — from 48 stitches to 12 — the yarn is drawn through them and the side edges are sewn together. A pompom made on an 8 cm cardboard ring goes on top.

Design: Védís Jónsdóttir — pattern from Lopi No. 24 (nos. 7 and 8), Ístex.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1662/1057/files/lopi24-hlokk-haddur-cover-2_586ce9b0-492f-4d5a-9049-01ce78565e98.jpg?v=1791006283
https://icelandicstore.is/products/hlokk-haddur-childrens-colour-block-zip-jacket-and-striped-hat-knitting-pattern
