The hat is knitted in the round from the brim up on 5 mm: 82 stitches cast on, increased to 106 over 8 rounds, a purl round, then 11 rounds decreased back to 82 — the doubled brim, which is folded back along the purl round and slip-stitched in place. Next comes a 12-round band of purl ridges, then a stocking-stitch crown, decreased 8 stitches every other round seven times and drawn together at the top. After fulling, the crown is shaped and the brim laid flat to dry. The scarf is 13 stitches of garter stitch knitted back and forth on 6 mm to 220 cm, cast off, fulled and laid flat to dry; the pattern notes that garter stitch stretches lengthwise and gives the finished scarf as 240 cm.
