Védís Jónsdóttir’s long jacket for women from Ístex’s Lopi 29, in its earth version: a black heather Álafosslopi ground covered from hem to neck in bands of zigzags, scallops and small crosses in grey, light ash, stone blue, light beige, oatmeal, murky (a brown) and frostbite (an olive green). Each pattern colour is two strands of Léttlopi held together, so every band blends two shades. The jacket is slightly waisted, with a round yoke, folded hems and crochet borders with button loops; the front is cut open. Every colour in this version is still made, so the kit has exactly the pattern’s colours.

Included

Icelandic Álafosslopi and Léttlopi wool yarn — yarn for the largest size is included, so every size is covered

Knitting pattern in English (PDF) — emailed right after purchase

ADDI knitting needles — only if you choose the kit with needles

Álafosslopi — 100 g balls · sizes S (M L)
A 0005 Black Heather — 3 (4 5)

Léttlopi — 50 g balls · sizes S (M L)
B 0057 Grey Heather — 2 (2 2)
C 0054 Light Ash Heather — 3 (3 3)
D 9418 Stone Blue Heather — 2 (2 2)
E 0086 Light Beige Heather — 2 (2 2)
F 1420 Murky — 2 (2 2)
G 1417 Frostbite — 2 (2 2)
H 0085 Oatmeal Heather — 1 (1 1)

Sizes

S

M

L

Chest

93 cm
36½″

101 cm
39¾″

110 cm
43¼″

Length to underarm

55 cm
21¾″

57 cm
22½″

59 cm
23¼″

Sleeve length to underarm

46 cm
18″

48 cm
19″

50 cm
19¾″

Gauge
12 sts × 14 rows = 10 cm (4″) over stocking stitch on 7 mm needles, as printed — the jacket is stranded colourwork with one strand of Álafosslopi and two strands of Léttlopi.

Needles used in the pattern (included when you choose the kit with needles)
7 mm circular needles, 40 and 80 cm
6 mm (US 10) circular needle, 80 cm, for the body hem
5 mm (US 8) circular needle, 40 cm, for the neckband
6 mm and 7 mm double-pointed needles for the sleeves

Not included
A 6 mm (US J/10) crochet hook for the front borders and button loops, 7 buttons (the pattern gives no size), stitch holders (or scrap yarn) for the underarm stitches, a sewing machine and thread for the steek, and a tapestry needle for grafting and the hems.

How it is knitted
Body and sleeves are knitted from the bottom up. The body hem starts with 5 rows of stocking stitch in a single strand of frostbite Léttlopi on the 6 mm needle — the facing — then, in the Álafosslopi ground, a garter ridge to fold along and 5 rows of stocking stitch, all back and forth; then 2 purl stitches are cast on at the front for the steek, and the body is joined and knitted in the round on 7 mm from a 78-round chart. At round 45, 15 stitches are decreased for the waist, and at round 67, 10 are increased again. The sleeves start the same way in the round on double-pointed needles, with a stone blue facing and a purl round to fold along, and are increased 4 or 5 times up their 65-round chart. The smaller sizes leave out a few marked rounds. Body and sleeves are joined for the round yoke: a 30-round chart with six decrease rounds, from 162–182 down to 66–74 stitches. The neckband, on 5 mm, has a 6-round pattern and a grey facing. The front is machine-sewn and cut open; both fronts get 2 rows of single crochet in the ground colour, with 7 button loops on the right front, and the hems are folded to the inside and slip-stitched down.

Design: Védís Jónsdóttir — pattern from Lopi No. 29 (no. 2), Ístex.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1662/1057/files/lopi29-endurreisn-1_6d98729e-68c7-454a-b030-4bbbd7a7757e.jpg?v=1790996413
