Védís Jónsdóttir’s open-front lace cardigan for women from Ístex’s Lopi 29, knitted with two strands of Plötulopi held together, in five pieces that are sewn together on the outside with Léttlopi, so the seams show. Zigzag lace lines run up the back, fronts and sleeves, with a column of eyelets down the centre back; the sleeves end in wide lace cuffs, and a big lace collar, picked up along both fronts and the neck, stands up at the neck and ripples down the fronts to the hem. The pattern has two colour versions with the same amounts — white, and pink (the pattern’s “berry”, 1425) — in sizes S, M and L. All four colours, the two Plötulopi shades and the two Léttlopi sewing yarns, are still made.

What you get

The knitting pattern in English (PDF), emailed right after purchase — nothing is posted

Two colour versions — white and pink

Sizes S, M and L

Charts for the lace border, the back, both fronts and both sleeves

Yarn and needles are not included. The cardigan has no buttons or other fastening.

How it is knitted
Knitted with two strands of Plötulopi held together, in five pieces — the back, two fronts and two raglan sleeves — back and forth on the 6.5 mm circular. Each piece starts with 4 rows of garter stitch, a 13-row lace border from chart 1 and 5 more garter rows (the first of them adjusts the stitch count): the back is cast on with 58 (65, 65) stitches, each front with 30, and each sleeve with 51 (58, 58), which are decreased to 27 (31, 33) after the border, so the cuff flares. The back has a column of eyelets at the centre with a zigzag lace line on each side; the fronts and sleeves have zigzag lace lines. The waist shaping is in the charts; the sleeves are increased to 47 (51, 55) stitches, the pieces are shaped for raglan sleeves, and the fronts slope in towards the neck. The pieces are sewn together from the right side in backstitch with Léttlopi, with the edges showing. Last comes the collar: stitches are picked up along both fronts and round the neck on the 5.5 mm circular, knitted in 2 garter ridges and a purl row, almost doubled with a row of K1, yo, and knitted in the chart 1 lace border, then 3 garter rows and a bind-off. The cardigan is rinsed by hand, with no fabric softener, and laid flat to dry.

Design: Védís Jónsdóttir — pattern from Lopi No. 29 (no. 1), Ístex.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1662/1057/files/lopi29-elding-1_cb3600ec-e23e-40c0-9ef6-34b7e727fc58.jpg?v=1791006493
