The hand is plain stocking stitch on 4 mm, with the thumb stitches knitted onto scrap yarn — on opposite sides for the right and the left mitten. The top is shaped with paired decreases at both sides, every other round twice and then every round, down to 4 stitches; the thumb is picked up with 9 (10, 11) stitches and knitted last.
