Both are knitted in Plötulopi with two strands held together, two colours at a time, so the eight colours are paired into nine blended shades: bands dotted with small navy crosses — the pattern calls them “lice” — below a yoke of navy motifs, and a hat with two big pom-poms like mouse ears. The original pattern is from Iðnaðardeild Sambandsins; Védís Jónsdóttir redesigned it and added the hat. One colour version — the sweater in sizes S to XXL, the hat in S and M/L. Three of the eight colours — 1050 berry heather, 1054 light berry and 1053 faded denim — are no longer made.

What you get

The knitting pattern in English (PDF), emailed right after purchase — nothing is posted

The Auðna sweater in sizes S, M, L, XL and XXL

The Happ hat in sizes S and M/L, knitted from the leftover yarn

Three charts — body and sleeves, yoke, and hat — with a key to the colour pairs

Yarn and needles are not included. Body and sleeves are knitted in the round from the bottom up: 4 cm of K1, P1 rib in midnight blue and winter blue on 4.5 mm, then chart 1 on 5.5 mm — a navy border with berry and orange, then bands of changing colour pairs with small navy crosses, repeating the 12-round motif (rounds 14–25) to the underarm. The pattern calls its order of colours a suggestion: change one colour at a time and let the other carry on, and end body and sleeves with faded denim and light berry, the first round of the yoke. The sleeves are increased under the arm. Body and sleeves are joined and the round yoke is knitted from chart 2, 43 rounds with four decrease rounds, from 192 (204, 216, 228, 240) stitches to 64 (68, 72, 76, 80); the smaller sizes leave out marked rounds. The collar is 6 cm of K1, P1 rib in midnight blue and winter blue, and the underarms are grafted. Happ: 70 (76) stitches are cast on and knitted in K1, P1 rib for 12 cm, then the hat chart in the same colour pairs, decreased to 12 (13) stitches that are drawn together; two big pom-poms in midnight blue and winter blue are attached at about round 19 as “mouse ears”.

Original pattern: Iðnaðardeild Sambandsins.
